Opening of a CBSE school in Jammu and Kashmir has got privilege of special exemptions in the provisions laid down by the CBSE board. As a pre requisite the first step is to set up a school with permissions from the state board, for which the state regulations need to be followed as given below:

As per CBSE Byelaws, land requirement for CBSE affiliation is 4000 sq meters for the state of Jammu & Kashmir and rest of the bye laws remains the same.
After setting up of the school, the management should plan their academic calendar as per the climatic conditions of J&K. As per the notifications issues by the Education board of Jammu and Kashmir the schools doesn’t have summer vacations but they have long winter vacations.
In the year 2021,
The J&K government on Tuesday dated 30th of Nov 2021, announced winter vacations for all the government and recognised private schools of Kashmir and winter zones of Jammu. Principal Secretary School Education Department, Bishwajit Kumar Singh said the schools up to class 8th will observe winter vacation from December 6 to February 28 while the classes from 9th to 12th will observe winter vacations from December 13 to February 28.
However, he said the schools, both in government and private sector, have been allowed to complete their ongoing online exams before closing the institutions for the winter vacations.
“Schools will be allowed to complete the ongoing exams so that it doesn’t remain pending for the next year. But no school will be allowed to continue with the class work for the students. If there are no ongoing exams in schools, then they should follow the calendar of winter vacations,” Principal Secretary said.
